It was a pleasure to be invited to judge the Italian Collie Club and I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and support for all the winners.
I was impressed with the overall quality of the entry and happy that there were very few high tails which is so common in other countries and totally spoils the outline on the move.
As usual some of the heads could have stronger under jaws but dentition was generally good and also expressions. A few had slightly low set ears but generally they still used them well. Heads were overall good quality of correct length and not too many heavy skulls.
Coats and condition were excellent with no appearance of being too heavy in coat and it was refreshing to see good quality in the merles who were all well marked.
The majority had good bodies and toplines but the prevailing problem throughout the breed was poor front movement, plaiting in front and sometimes very close in rear movement. Whilst this breed puts much emphasis on the head, it should not be forgotten that they are a working breed and it is essential that they can move easily.in that respect, I must comment on the Smooth Collies, although few in numbers, they were all high quality and really excelled in movement and outline and had long heads and well set ears, a credit to their breeders.
There were some close decisions for best dog and best bitch and sometimes it was because the winners coped better with ring size and surface on the move, making the most of themselves covering the ground and maintaining good carriage, I can imagine that in an outside ring on the grass some would have performed better, I was very pleased with my Best Dog and Best bitch who both had excellent heads with lovely sweet expressions, and well set ears.
Both in immaculate coat and using their ears well, they presented an overall picture of good type and excellent temperament making the most of themselves both on the move and on the stack. It was also encouraging to have some promising youngsters.

È stato un piacere essere invitata a giudicare il raduno di razza e ho apprezzato l’atmosfera amichevole e il supporto per tutti i vincitori.
Sono rimasta colpita dalla qualità complessiva dei soggetti in gara e sono stata contenta che ci fossero pochissime code alte che sono così comuni in altri paesi e rovinano completamente la linea in Movimento.
Come al solito, alcune teste avrebbero potuto avere sottomenti più forti, ma la dentatura era generalmente buona, così come l’espressione.
Alcuni avevano orecchie leggermente attaccate basse, ma in genere le usavano comunque bene. Le teste
erano complessivamente di buona qualità, di lunghezza corretta e con crani non troppo pesanti.
Mantelli e condizioni erano eccellenti, senza sembrare troppo pesanti ed è stato piacevole vedere una buona qualità nei merle, tutti ben macchiati.
La maggior parte aveva buoni tronchi e linee superiori, ma il problema prevalente in tutta la razza era lo scarso movimento anteriore, l’incrociare sugli anteriori e a volte un posteriore molto chiuso.
Sebbene questa razza ponga molta enfasi sulla testa, non bisogna dimenticare che si tratta di una razza da lavoro ed è essenziale che si muova agilmente.
A questo proposito, devo fare un commento sui Collie a pelo raso: sebbene pochi in numero, erano tutti di alta qualità e si distinguevano davvero per movimento e profilo, con teste lunghe e orecchie ben piazzate, un merito dei loro allevatori.
Ci sono state alcune decisioni sofferte per il miglior maschio e la migliore femmina, e a volte ciò è avvenuto perché i vincitori hanno affrontato meglio le dimensioni del ring e la superficie in movimento, coprendo il terreno al meglio e mantenendo un buon portamento. Immagino che in un ring esterno sull’erba alcuni avrebbero ottenuto risultati migliori.
Sono stata molto soddisfatta del mio Miglior Maschio e della mia Miglior Femmina, entrambi con teste eccellenti, espressioni dolci e orecchie ben piazzate.
Entrambi con un mantello impeccabile e un buon uso delle orecchie, hanno dato un’immagine generale di buon tipo e temperamento eccellente, dando il meglio sia in movimento che da fermi. È stato anche incoraggiante avere alcuni giovani promettenti.
